Gaudi – Mosaic and Tessellation

Today we looked at some of Gaudi’s mosaic creations like the “Dragon of the Stairway”

We knew about mosaics from learning about the Romans last term, so we talked about what mosaics were and how they were made.
We looked at pictures of tessellation patterns, where shapes are repeated and fitted together to cover a surface without leaving any gaps.
It didn’t need to be just squares, rectangles and hexagons though, we looked at some patterns made by M.C. Escher, he made birds, fish and even men on horses tessellate!
We tried to make picture using just shapes, using some tessellation and some mosaic techniques.
